Thats the kind of thing i'm looking for.

I just wanted to know if i should sleeve it or have it welded in line.

Thanks

Have the extension tube to fit over the top and bottom joints but cut the end of the tube to 45 degrees,

This will give your a larger weld area.

I went through this exercise with mine. Eventually had it professionally lengthened by extending the solid shaft with solid bar of similar size/strength. Came to the conclusion it's too critical a safety issue for my diy welding skills. Engineering co. will also be able to ensure it runs true. As mine needed the column extending I did extend the sleeve tube myself, rosette welding in place first before using a straight edge to ensure it's lined up, then running a seam all around the joins (cut out the centre section so the top bearing remains usable).

Well i popped over to the steel place. Only thing they had close was this piece. Feels sturdy but not sure if it its walls are thick enough? Any input?
