On the mk indy chassis i need to fit a remote gear lever linkage is it ok to cut away the cross tube that is near the the gear lever and if so where is the best place to get the gear lever extension from

I did. I had a chat with Martin K and he agreed OK. I did fit a support for the rear of the extension which took the place of the original tube. Not really structural so should be fine.

I did the same on my ST chassis after talking to Mark (or was it Colin?) at Mac#1. No probs so far (2.5 years/3500 miles)
