quick fix self centering please
paulmw - 2/4/08 at 07:35 AM

I know self centering is a well discussed item on here for MK's but in short I need a quick fix to get it through the SVA

Without opening a can of worms, all suggestions welcomed

Paul

slacken off the rack, fit old ball joints (though not worn ones), pump the tyres up. If you have those hub sierra hub adaptors turn them the right way round.

springs in the rack behind the gattor os common on MK's.

This worked for me on a normal Indy:
1 Degree Tow Out (Front)
1 Degree Negative Camber (Front)
15PSI Tyre Pressure (Front)

Cheers

Similar settings as mentioned above, plus the old valve spring trick, this also helps avoid the front brake flexi's touching the wish bones, as the springs act as a stop and slightly reduce the lock available.

I would recommend adjusting the toe out and camber then trying it out, on a private road of course! As long as it shows that it is making a good attempt they will be happy!

Remake your top bones or get MK to supply you with a set.
Afterall, they are the ones selling you an un-SVAable car.
I had the same problem when I built the F1-2.
It took me about 3hrs to re-make new top bones so that I had 7 degrees castor.
In the end this was the fastest and safest way.
You won't believe how different your car handles once you do it.
It is better to do one last job properly than short cut and end up in a hedge etc.

Time and time again I have to repeat this offset mushrooms have no effect on caster angle.

With Mk wishbones make sure the top wishbone is the correct way round.

I simply pumped my tyres up to 40 psi and had no problems, a bit of a hard ride to sva though!
