Has anyone ever tried a vtec installation in an indy? The 1.6 puts out 150 bhp up to the 1.8 190 bhp type R or 197 bhp 2.0 type R. Would make for some good performance and has one of the best gearshifts made. Im certainly interested
one prob, the engine spins the wrong way for a rwd instilation
just put the diff upside down

Nice theory......and it will work for a while...
But, axles and gearboxes aren't designed to be run "the wrong way" for extended periods....the are designed to be predominately run in
one direction.....(I know, I've designed gearboxes for machinery)
Plus, how long could you tolerate the whine of sounding like you are reverse all the time..?...
I've never driven a Metro and have no intention of ever doing so, but when they drive by (the few that aren't rusted to hell by now) they
have that distinctive 'reverse' whine....
It would annoy me I think....
i always thought that reverse was noisy cos the teeth are straight cut rather than helical like the forward cogs. How much is the diff and how much is the teeth?
is this not the case or all front drive engines like a zetec? im a bit mechanically challenged so i wouldnt know. if a vtec is not an option would a tuned 1.8 zetec make a nice alternative? and what gearbox would you have to use.
It's unique to the Honda, there are some very nice Zetec powered cars.
The very latest Hondas turn the right way, not a cheap option tho....
Cheers
Chris

I spoke with a guy some weeks ago, he is driving a Vtec in rallycross. And his tuner
RPOWER modify's Vtec engine for use in sand buggy's, also reverting the rotation from the Vtec
engines.
the civic type r engine and i think the s2000 engines spin the right way, only problem might be a rwd gearbox, donor s2000's are few and far
between and most likely expensive! a vauxhall xe or duratec installation would be similar power and cheaper. less complicated without the vvc stuff
too.

also, have a read of this thread:

I was also interested in this when i was looking at engine options, i have only seen one successful vtec installation done by a company called
plays-kool, if you download their pdf there is a picture of a vtec installation but they do say not to ask but what is the harm in asking. as
you'll also see they do carbon bits at low prices,
on page 3

hope that is of use
