Nosecone fitting
MautoK - 25/11/03 at 06:28 PM

I'm about to sort out the fixings for nosecone and scuttle and hoping to get it right first time

If I may pick your brains, Gents...

1. It looks as if the rear sloping face of the nosecone should be co-planar with the front sloping face of the chassis.... So the lip needs relieving to clear the lower wishbones' front mountings? - and to allow for the thickness of the side panels on top of the side rails I was going to lay neoprene strips as spacers.

2. Is it better to fix the nosecone with screws/rivnuts or make it easily removeable - either hinged or some kind of fairly positive location + toggles?

3. Is there a standard/regular/normal location for the headlight bar or just put it where it looks OK? (Don't have lights yet)

4. When the nosecone is on, does the bonnet then dictate the position of the scuttle or is there a 'local' reference for the scuttle (and then trim the bonnet to suit)? I realise that you have to chew a bit of the scuttle's lip to go around the tubular cross member.

I'm aiming for a Mk II Escort radiator most likely, if that has any bearing on fitting the nose.

Thanks for your learned comments!

I suggest that you have a look at MK9Rs build diary (I think its about June) He explains how to set it up very well.

Beat me to it again!!

Its definetly worth doing the nose cone, bonnet, scuttle and bulkhead panel (if you have the MK one) all at the same time to get it right. And yes you do need to relieve the lip to clear the suspension mounts

Thanks fellas. That's this weekend's job sorted!

I gotta pop this thread up

a) Front edge of scuttle should line up (approximately) with the front edge of the foot well cross ? members

c) Fit (temporally) nose cone centrally and as rearward as possible. Measure the diagonals from the foot well cross? members to check that the hose cone is mounted square.
