I have one. It seems to read a couple of dB louder than that at Cadwell Park. It was usefull for seeing how much difference various mods made.

From a point of view of checking silencer mods (ie is it any quieter now?) they're worthwhile but they're fairly cheap and properly calibrated db meters cost £££££ IE if you turn up at SVA saying "but my db meter says" they'll quickly explain that it's because your db meter has the accuracy of divining rod...

Thanks for that, had mine for about a year and it seems pretty accurate but just corious how you found yours,brother inlaw is sending a brand new LCR racing outfit over to germany for one of the world championship rounds and we need to check exhaust, long way to send it only to fail on exhaust

TER Intruments can calibrate it for you but it may well cost more then the meter! You could always hire one for a few days. I think Livingstone Hire do them. Or buy one from RS and send it back after you have used it........

Bear in mind even with expensive calibrated meters, if you haven't also got an expensive calibrated location readings can vary 1 or maybe even 2 dB depending on the surface, objects in the surrounding area, wind, atmospheric conditions etc. So if you get it right on the limit here, the scrutineers at the event may well get a higher reading - so allow a margin of safety!

If you can go to a test day or track day near you and ask nicely to get noise tested. I do this at Castle Combe and use my cheap gauge at home so I've now got a rough idea how loud it is.
