Has anyone drilled out the holes on the diff input flange and then used HT nuts and bolts to secure prop?
That is exactly how I am going to have to attach mine....uising nuts and bolts
Do you think this wil be OK. One of my holes is stripped ( oo err )
Only wanted to get some advice from somebody who's done it !
IMHO..
I cant see it being a problem if you use decent nuts and bolts and make sure you get the right torque on them!
Dont forget, the actual connection should rely on the friction between the two flanges themselves so the bolts are just there to assist this friction,
not actually take the load per-se...
I have done this before, bolting a propshaft straight onto a flange using normal 8mm 8.8 nuts and bolts.....perhaps not ideal...but it was only taking
80hp
This time I will be using something a bit...stronger...
some else asked the same question earlier.. oh, er right
lol, joking...
anyway, someone on your other thread said something about thinking about how fast it spins etc, i think their thinking may have been only replacing
one threaded hole with a nut an bolt, which would unbalance it.
sooo, yeah, replace all of them, making sure everything will stay in balance (same grade/length/size/weight/even supplier/same spec basically) nuts
and bolts etc, make sure you can get in to tighten everything properly, then i think it will be fine.
that said, i've never done it myself... and there must be a reason why the original was threaded holes... i can't think what that reason
must be though

ah, good pont ^ its only 4 nuts to us, but over the production on hundreds of thousands of cars, those few pence all adds up!

I tapped mine out to M10 coarse, tightened up the bolts with nylocs on the back for extra security. no problems thus far
