Indy wing stays

Would i be right in thinking that the wing stays need a bit fettling especially around the flexi.

What do you mean?

OK for mine, just need bent round the wheel, here is a pic

I got a set of stays and they seem to be fouling the flexi pipe, so i dont know if i should try to bend the round tube part of the stay under or over the flexi. I dont think there is anything wrong with the stays and i am fitting them to a tiger?

Dont shout at me too loudly but could it be case that there is a left and a right?

iscmatt - 10/6/08 at 09:43 PM

i found that there was a left and right for mine, found them difficult to put on the first time!! ( the wrong way around)!!!!

the top tab goes outside the mushroom pinch bolt, not in the middle.

i assume you've figured that but it's the only way i can see you'd have a problem with them fouling the flexi.

They should fit fine with the tabs in the right places. I never fitted them, never actually took them out the box apart from a quick check they were all ok.

I've got the same on the Indy at the mo tho and they dont foul anything, flexi's have a biiiig curve in them tho.
Think there's a few pics in my gallery

Yes this was the mistake i made to start with too, it all became clear very quickly though!!

since we're talking about wing stays, it's probably worth mentioning that the stays will crack at some point, and it will be on the front vertical section where it goes from round to flat in the heat affected zone at the top of the weld.

i run dax rush cycle wings on my indy that are pretty heavy but i've welded a thin strip (6mmx20~mm) of 3mm steel over the insides of said joint and linished the welds down to remove as many stress raisers as i can. they've since performed faultlessly with no further signs of breakages or cracking.

if you've not yet got your brackets painted/powdercoated, i strongly advise the above mod.

In a rush of post-picking up kit over-enthusiasm I did something stupid to mine

They're now a nice shiny black, just waiting for some hammer and blowtorch abuse. Still, it'll stop them rusting I suppose...
