Hi all,
I've had my steering collumn in the car and it all fits ok but today I fitted my wheel and when I tightened up the wheel the top of the collumn
pulls up into the wheel, which now leaves me with a massive gap between the lower collumn and the rack.
Please see the photos below and try to help me understand what's wrong.
The top and lower parts of the collumn are located in the dowel and hole as shown below.
The gap can be seen in the photos below.
I measured the length of the lower collumn (modified by MK) and the insert is approx 62cm and the total length including UJ etc is approx 79cm.
Any help is much appreciated.
can't see your picture
looks like the chassis is about 2" to long mate, best take it back.
pull the triangula section back out of the sierra rack.
it'll be tight but it'll move. a parellel punch in the dowel hole and a hammering towards the rack should sort it.
mine sticks out a lot further than yours

Could you pull out the collapsable bit (triangular) to make up the difference, just a thought!
the column is a sliding joint, just pull out the triangular section a little more through the lower brg, it may be stiff but should extend the white
plastic section should slide out of the outer column.
Only piccy i can find
I'll give it a go, Is there a spring inside the top half of the collumn then?
It'll be tomorrow at the earliest, I'll let you know how i get on.
there are springs in the top half of the column, but none of them act on the lower sliding section.
it's just a sliding joint and is locked by the friction from the nylon bush in the bit where the inner upper section of the column goes from
round to triangular. if you pull it all the way out, it's just a triangular tube. don't though - it's not so easy to get back in.

Yep just pull it out, on the adjustable column it's this bit that moves backwards and forwards...
Panic over, its all adjusted and now fits, Thank god for that!
Cheers all.
