Hey all, has any one got any views or comments on the use of the infection pinto in the MK. Has any one been successful in retaining the original injection system and is it worth it ??

Hi,
I have used the standard pinto fuel injection set up in a Westfield, albeit with a new manifold I made up so it didn't stick through the bonnet.

I was previously running twin 40's, and with the injection set up you get more low down torque and it's all a lot smoother and quieter. The downside is you loose quite a bit of power and you are restricted with choice of cam etc. as the ECU can't easily be remapped to change fuel requirements.

Overall I was really pleased with the standard injection and it started and ran like clockwork - much more reliable.

By the way, I had a local firm make up a manifold in ali. I did this by using the existing manifold and cutting the pipes and welding a square airbox of equivelent volume onto the pipes. I then just bolted on the throttle body to one end (after cutting an appropriate hole). Total cost was 35 quid.

Regards
Chris

I've done an ineffective, sorry - injection pinto Indy - photos in photo section.
It does 0-60 in 6 seconds with an FR34 cam and pulls from low revs and has reverse with a basic engine that costs next to nothing. I think that its about the cheapest engine choice at present. You pay your money and take your choice.

Mark Allanson and others have come up with good alternative approaches.

I'd suggest that you do a search of this site as it's been previously discussed, and soak up as many views as possible before committing.

Good luck.

Cheers,

Colin

I've got a standard engine and located some 40's but also puchased a 88 grandad with the injection lump. Not sure which would be the easy and fast route also not sure about the sva issues of both.

cheers all

Your right, its ages since I updated my photo's - the last time I did it, it took 2 hours and the the site crashed and they all went missing. ChrisW found the old ones and I was back to square one
