Side Repeaters for IVA- help please....
phil4521 - 22/8/10 at 06:47 PM

My Luego Viento recently failed the IVA on a few points- nothing too serious but I want some advise of on front repeaters as the examiner said for IVA, side repeaters need be visible from 5 degrees (to longitudinal centreline of car) from the front and rear. So I need to mount some of the front cycle wings I think and disable the ones that on the side of the car. These need to be flat ( as they are close fit to the wheels so no clearance.)

I have bought a set of these :

http://www.s-v-c.co.uk/prod/fairing-indicators.html

but dont think these can seen from both front and rear if mounted longitudinally. If I mount them sideways on I feel they will look crap.

Any ideas?

Is there anything that says you can't have two sets of side repeaters ? Ie on front cycle wings and on rear wings ?

I think if you do that, one pair are considered indicators and are tested differently. I may be wrong though.

You can have as many repeaters as you like but the simple solutions are the best.
Don't know what headlights you have but at the last IVA I went to Mr Tester was well impressed with the CBS repeaters in the headlight bowl

you are only allowed one set side repeaters for IVA

The IVA manual I have might be out of date, but it the section on side repeaters says

quote:
To the rear between 5 deg and 60 deg outboard

It also says only one pair of side repeaters allowed. The other must be disabled.

Have the rules changed since 27/03/2009?

Not for the IVA you can't. You can have orange hole fillers but as soon as they are wired up they become extra repeaters, IVA fail

My version of the IVA manual specifies side repeaters visibility to the side and rear only, not towards the front.

" ii. (SIDE REPEATER) To the rear between 5 deg and 60deg outboard. "

Have they moved the goalposts again ?

and they have to be visble from 5 degrees off the rear, and I think i'ts 5 degrees down from the height of the repeater itself, so even if it's on the scuttle side the rear wing will block it on most 7s

I had to move mine on the Mojo for the IVA re-test. Moved them to the rear side of the cycle wings and it passed, its just 5DEG from the rear.
I bought some cheap stick on ones and mounted them up close to the penny washers securing the cycle wing. Then drilled the penny washer and passed the wires through. Now passed and with new washers the repeaters are now back in the original position.

Simonwinn- is this is writing anywhere? If so your solution looks good.

Positioning the side repeaters is getting to be the most difficult thing in the build

I thought someone said the answer was to put them at the top of the rear wings, but this doesn't work as then they are further than the specified 2600 mm from the front of the vehicle.

I'm not keen on putting them on the top of the front cycle wings as I don't like electric cables attached to moving parts.

Wotta bugga !

I bought these for my current build, cheap, small and IVA approved

Criddy these look perfect. I think this is the best solution- cheap and effective if they get damaged

Criddy - 24/8/10 at 05:22 PM

Yeah I thought so especially as my car is being made in black and Orange!

Criddy - 24/8/10 at 05:23 PM

Glad I could help

If you remove the rubber surround they are tiny, but still fit

Has anyone mounted any of the small led repeaters offered by kit parts direct in the side of the headlight bowl as suggested before on this thread ??
Seems like a neat solution, don't really want to bore holes in my new hradlights if mr iva man say no !!!
Such a ball ache for something so trivial

I expect it probably all right, you just need to check the wording, will they be visible from the required angle? The tricky thing will be the rear wings, whether they block the view- 5 degrees out from directly behind the repeater, 5 degrees down (I think) from the height of the repeater itself.
