Hi all

I'm running 6.5J x 15H2 wheels and I need some new tyres! What do you recommend I fit? I plan on driving mostly on British roads with the occasional trackday. Need to get this sorted soon as it's holding up manufacture of my front wing stays and I only have access to a MIG for a short while.



Current tyres - too high profile?

I run toyo R1R's very impressed with them done 2 track days and about 1200 miles so far in mixed weather

Front 195/50/15

Rear 205/50/15

+1 for Toyo R1Rs

Fantastic grip in the dry and surprisingly good in the wet too. The soft compound is more suited to our light cars than say a T1R is, but that does mean they wear out quicker. I hear good things about Yoko AD08 tyres as well but suspect they're not quite as effective in the wet.

Another +1 for the Toyo R1Rs. I used to have a set of Toyo 888s on the car- they grip incredibly in the dry but were USELESS and scary on a track in the pouring rain. The R1Rs are not as hard-wearing, but they grip very well in any weather and the price is right.

If you're not planning to drive in the rain, R888s seem to be the popular choice. If you are, you're probably better off with R1Rs or AD08s which I think are pretty similar tyres. I had AD08s, they were pretty good (not as good feel as R888s, but lots of grip) but limited size availability. Switched to R888s, wouldn't go back.

my speeach is:

the cheapest "tuning" is a short diff!!

as the the rim-size (13, 14 or 15" ) in combination with the tyre-profile directly influences the final drive ratio i would go for a good compromise.

whats your diff ratio, what gearbox and what engine are you running?

Before you go spending bud. I was in the same position as you last week. I was running borbet R16 wheels which were 205 width!

Instead of changing the tyres I went ahead and got myself a set of 13s which are 185 width..

All I can say is - I wish I had done this a hell of a lot earlier, the driving is better ten fold, slow speed steering is an ease, and it looks much more like a kit car!
