Quick release boss
Banana - 7/1/17 at 01:20 AM

Just after a decent quick release boss. Don't like the look of £15 ebay ones.

Thanks

Indeed. Do what you can to make sure there's no slop...like mine had.
Mine LOOKED like the expensive Spa type (triangular mounting face, yellow release ring, driveshaft-type splines), but was clearly a cheap knockoff with a lot of play, supplied by my infamous evil kitcar middleman.... Fortunately, a good friend (drives a Tiger 7) is a wizard of a welder/fabricator so he added and filed back a bit of steel and...presto! Works great, now.
Seems like the spline type (like mine) may be more prone to problems if it's not of the highest quality. So, if I were looking again, I'd strongly consider the other type that uses steel (ball-bearing type) balls to snap into dimples and really lock the thing solid.
Ok, enough of my unsolicited thoughts for now...and I have a car to work on!

I use the NRG system as it has zero play and you can get some accessory that allow you to lock off the place when not in use and stow the lock when driving

Look at this on eBay D1 SPEC UNIVERSAL RACING PADDLE STEERING WHEEL QUICK-RELEASE SV/RED JDM DRIFT

I've just fitted one of the above, but black, and it's very good.

Ball bearing type, also has a safety button which needs pressing before paddles will release the wheel.

Nice one Kev, thats the sort of style/price i was looking for.

The NRG ones look great, but are pretty expensive. The main difference between cheap and expensive seems to be the amount of ball bearing. Cheapo ebay ones have three! Where as NRG and the one Kev lists have them around the full circumference pretty much.

MY current one has three locating pins about a 1/4 inch thick in conjunction with a locking tab. Has a fair amount of slop though.

May have a new one of the D1 spec ones in the garage that I never used. Will have a look tomorrow.
