busa ignition/fuel problem ?
Jon Ison - 13/2/11 at 06:14 PM

BEC, but you guys will know the answer.

Developed a serous misfire under load today at Cadwell, also intermittent misfire on tick over, sometimes ok other times missing.

Pretty sure fueling is ok, you can see it spewing gallons down each throttle body, plenty of fuel pressure.

New fault, engine as run sound for over a year.

I'm thinking coil packs and or plugs maybe ?

I'm a numpty how do I test a coil pack ?

What else should I be looking for, not a efi or injection guru I'm afraid.

Hi Jon
had a similar problem to this last season and after a lot of messing about traced it to a dodgy cam position sensor, might be worth a look at

Had similar on my 2003 r1 at Woodbridge last year .Started as an intermittent miss and got steadily worse until eventualy ran on 3 ,turned out is was just a plug.

You may have hit on something Andy, what i didn't put in 1st post was you could see the odd "burn" down the throttle bodies as if the timing was out, cam position sensor ?

I've got a similar problem with my busa.

Been fine for ages, then as i have a tiny amount of steeing input to the rhs, it cuts out. If i'm then giving it beans, it will splutter at abt 9500 rpm.

I actually think its a battery problem, as last time out, i had the lights on when it was happening alot. I then stalled on a hill (!) and the battery was dead.

I'm thinking that the lights were discharging the battery, then there was not enough juice for the fuel pump (standard pump by the fuel rails).

Is this possible?

Sorry to hijack the thread but it could be similar??

2 dodgy injectors, job done.
