Megasquirt: Standard or Extra Code?
AntonUK - 7/12/11 at 10:03 PM

My megasquirt parts have finally arrived from DIYAutoTune.

I want to start building it tomorrow night, but I need to make a decision regarding which build/code to use.

Does anyone have a link or can tell me the for and against arguments for either the standard or extra code?

Engine is a 1800 silvertop with GSXR750 TB's, EDIS for now but will run direct wasted spark once I get another ignition driver.

Extra. Its better can't remember the details though.

Extra all the way!

I ordered my MS2 cpu same weekend as you ordered your ecu and received it last friday. Make sure you use BIP373's for both ignition drivers, i can't remember what the standard one is.

Phil (daxtojero) on here wrote most of the extra code, try asking him he seems to be very helpful.

I have built it to the extra code will post pics when I get to a proper pc

Extra code allows you to use waisted spark without EDIS also has a Tacho output amongst other things.

You also need to fit a link on the PCB to stop the stepper motor chip overheating on the MS2 daughter board, it installs 12v to pin 16, you will find it in the Extra build manual but it says its optional. I spoke to Auto tune and they recommend it's fitted.

All done bar the ignition outputs as I am waiting on a delivery of another BIP373.

Excellent! That must be very satisfying.

Very... the other half doesn't get it tho

Just need to finish the engine and really see if it works

Nice job, I'm in a similar position Just got to get mine fitted to the engine, I'm building a 2.0 Duratec with GSXR 750 throttle bodies, running waisted spark with no EDIS. Feels great to see all the lights flashing although you cant test waisted spark with the Stimulator, you need a JimStim for that.

Here's mine soak tested for a few hours then coated in conformal coating to keep dust and moisture out
