MX5 gearbox sensors !

The box has 2 'sensors' one with red wires one with blue,what do they do and could I remove the 'red' one as its causing installation problems : (

One is the reverse switch, the other a neutral switch. Sorry I can't remember which way around they are.

Just check the continuity to see which is which.

You should still be able to test continuity with a meter.

Blue is on top of the gearbox and is the idle, red is over the left hand side and is the reverse. I've just done what rdodger suggested and stuck a multimeter on blue while I used a metal bar to shift the gears (I also have my engine sans car at the moment)
