Poor Sore Paw
907 - 10/4/08 at 08:30 PM

Hi All.

For about 18 months I've had a lump growing in my hand.
Just before Christmas I decided to go visit the doctor, who referred me to a surgeon.
He said it could be a ganglion, and that he would remove it. Well, today was the day.

It turns out that it wasn't what he thought, but was a lump of metal.

Whether this was from work, or from my car I have no idea, but I will pay more attention in the future.

I now face a couple of weeks off work with nothing to do but pester you lot on here.

Please don't send grapes..... I much prefer ice cream.

Happy building.

Ow!

Maybe I won't ask you to weld something for me just for the time being...

Take it easy, and get well soon.

See you soon,
David

Thats proper Locost, growing your own metal!

blakep82 - 10/4/08 at 08:42 PM

how big was this lump? i've had a bump on my stomach for years (since about the time i started welding) and i remember it started as a scab. don't know if a welding spark imbedded itself in me maybe?

Nah, he'sold, probably only uses 2 fingers and maybe a thumb!

Oh, and someone's been drawing on your arm, you want to have words with that surgeon.

PS, hope all is well soon, you going to be at Stoneleigh again this year, as I can't make Detling?

I love all those replies. Cheers.

I had a chat to the doc before the op. He wrote "Left Hand" on my left hand in black felt tip ?????? ?????? Worrying that.
(that's what the black marks are)

The lump was in my palm, at the base of my middle fingers. About the size of a chapel hat peg.

I'd still like to go to Detling but I won't be able to drive. I will see how I feel.

I can't afford to type any slower Caber. Bad enough with two hands.

Is that smaller than an organ stop? (More slang for a chilly nipple )

Bad news is we've removed the wrong hand, good news though, the other one's getting better. Get well soon Paul and keep it clean.

HS that looks terrible! this bit of metal was it pointy, spiral marks on it, kind off like a bullet...?

now you've got me thinking why this cut in my leg isn't healing after 3 months!

hope you heal up soon

Hi All

For those of you unfamiliar with chapel hat pegs it was the size of a glass marble.

Because of the lack of infection I can only assume that the metal in question was a piece of stainless.

Yet another advantage for building a stainless chassis.

Ofcourse you should be worried - some geezer a few years ago had the wrong foot amputated!!!

anyways, how come you did not notice a piece of metal the size of a marble embedded in your hand???

Nooooooooooooo

The hard white growth that grew round the metal was the size of a marble.

It was quite funny in the pre-op waiting room.
6 of us, male & female, sat round in surgical gowns that do up at the back, or rather don't.
Mine was for "aged 12 to 15" and I weigh 16 stone. Not a pretty sight.
One chap needed the loo and backed his way to the door. He couldn't rush as his felt tip marks were around his knee.

You can still polish with one hand . Good thing it's not your drinking hand. Not able to go to Dietling otherwise I would pick you up. Hope all is well, see you soon. Regards Mel.

Get well soon Paul.

The reason they write on you is to save the whole "is it my left or his left that we are supposed to chop?" conversation. Surgeons are easily confused.

I mean it's not exactly brain surgery is it!

Cheers
