Scary..... Linky

mookaloid - 23/11/11 at 07:38 PM

Was on the 6 o'clock news - I was amazed at how bendy the fuselage was as the forces went through it in a way it wasn't designed for. The pilot should be in a lot of trouble for that - he must have been breaking a lot of regulations

Ouch for job like that he should have had a winchman/observer with him as look out.

In Vietnam to make a landing zone they used to cut down small trees with the rotors of Hueys

tegwin - 23/11/11 at 07:47 PM

Doubt the pilot will get in trouble. The guys on the ground are more to blame.

What is scary is how his seat failed just after the initial shock... That helicopter model is renowned for a poorly designed seat!

"In Vietnam to make a landing zone they used to cut down small trees with the rotors of Hueys"

Maybe Vietnam, Hollywood.

Brilliant account of the war through the eyes of a Huey pilot.

Where a jet engine has to cope with bird strike, a heli has to cope with tree strike. The Augusta-Westland EH101 has to be able to withstand a 300mm softwood tree.
