Took it out for the 1st time last night
I taxed my Indy yesterday and couldnt resist taking it for a drive, mainly to see if I had set up the fan controller correctly and to see if the sump
cleared the speed bumps, both ok.
I wasn't overly impressed with the performance from the Pinto 2 litre - it felt much slower than my tintop Fabia vRS, mind you I was feathering
the throttle a little as it was very cold and looked slippy....I didn't take it much above 3000rpm....can I expect a real burst of acceleration
above that rev range with a standard pinto 2.0?

You taxed it on the 30th? Why not wait until tomorrow, you've basically wasted a months tax money!

I'm not that silly  I checked first and they gave me it from the 1st of Jan which was nice of them, 2 days free tax!

Well then you were driving without road tax, so good job you didn't get pulled!

I think you will find the tax is not effective until the 1st. I once had to forsake a months tax for the sake of a day as a car I was buying was some
distance away and needed to tax it to bring it home.
May be wrong but since when did the motorist get anything free?

Really? I thought it would be taxed as it didn't have a previous tax disc and it only has an expiry date? Hmm...yeah you're probably right
as it's 12 months prior to the expiry date which is 31/12/2009 so I could drive it today I s'pose?

Back on track, the tax wasn't the subject really more the performance of the Pinto

The standard 2 litre Pinto in my Locost isn't very exciting or fast, the acceleration is pretty dismal.

Hello
To be honest i don't think the Pinto engine is bad at all alot of people knock them and yes in standard form they are abit tame.
However fit a big valve head, Cam and some bike carbs and have it balanced and you can make them fly.
I went in a proper rally MK2 Escort recently on a tarmac sprint and it was mixing with the best 16v Vauxhall and Zetec's etc and sounded
great.
I think with a standard Pinto car most of the benefit will come round the twisty bits once you have it setup right,it always amusess me when you come
to some fast bends and the numpty behind is gritting his teeth trying to keep up and you have still got something in reserve.
Have fun with it and get used to driving it first and then look at more power.

Did you remember to untie the boat attached to the pinto?
