Pinto to Zetec?
Hi Guys,
Can someone with more knowledge than me (not hard!) list what it would take for a novice to swap out the exisiting 1988 donor sierra 2.0 OHC pinto
(single weber carb) for a more modern 1.8 or 2.0 Zetec or Duratec engine?
All I know is I'd need new engine mounts??, a new bonnet and exhaust manifold as it exits on the other side? What else?
My car is a 2004 build Indy and has the donor gbox/diff too.
Thanks,
Dan

Hiya mate,
I've been looking into this myself recently.
For a duratec you'll also need a new bellhousing for your type 9, an ecu, rwd sump and water rail. There's possibly more.

Depends on the level you want to take it to.
you could get away with running your carb on the zetec with a basic esc dis ecu.
the 1.8 will come with a lower sump and waterpump that rotates the correct way.
you will be able to use your alternator with a pully from a later dohc sierra.
Electric fuel pump.
plus the bits you have said.
power ~115 bhp
take it up a levell.
2.0 zetec (silver top) 1.8l water pump. Lowered sump.
bike carbs or throttle bodies on custom manifold.
engine managment system.
plus the bits you have said and you are looking at ~165bhp

Dan, or for that matter anyone who's contemplating a change from pinto to zetec or bike engine. I'm looking for an exhaust manifold for a
pinto to fit to my indy, preferably stainless steel, cash waiting.

Pinto to Zetec
I did this year before last, plenty of work including all front loom changing sides because of exhaust but i must say well worth the effort.
Here is a good link re zetec needs.

Had a think about this too, and the duratec is more appealing to me because of the exhaust being on the same side as the pinto.

I did research the duratec but found it far cheaper to bolt straight onto the existing type9 gearbox, the exhaust will have to be replaced whatever
side you exit on.

The exhaust from the Pinto will fit onto the Duratec with a bit of manipulating & heat. keith2lp from this site changed from a pinto to a duratec
and used the same exhaust.

I have one that I am about to sell. It's an MK one that came with my part built kit.
The engine was running with it installed but I don't think it drove anywhere. It's been stored for a while and whilst in good condition
would benefit from a polish to look completely like new which is almost what it is.
Not sure what it's worth?
David
P.S. I'm now on the look out for a zetec manifold.
