MK Clutch pedal

Here we go again with one of my stupid questions

I´m building with a Pinto and type9 gearbox.
Should it be some kind of spring on the clutch somewhere???

All you need is some adjustment on the cable somewhere so that you can get a bit of free play in the cable / pedal so that when the clutch is released there is no load on the thrust bearing

I'm sure I've got one, just don't know where I've put it

The Sierra has a self tensioning/ ratchet mech. All you need is some means of adjustment, as the pedal will try to fall forward on its own. You could put a spring in but Ive not seen one used.
No doubt someone will corect me.

What clutch cable did you use?

I used the bike cable which has adjustment on the engine end. I think MK7 used a cortina cable which has ajustment on the outer cable and fits the pinto box.

I buildt my own pedal and used a standard clutch cable (Sierria 1.8CVH). For the adustment I drilled an m12x45 bolt all the way though (down its length) and then slotted this with my grinder. I then welded a small piece of tube to the head to hold the end of the cable sleve. This allows the cable to be adusted at the bell housing end.

I also had to space the plastic bit back from the pedal to get my adjustment correct by extending the tube on the chassis.

to connect the cable to the pedal I welded a m6 washer over an m12 nut. Then I took and m12 bolt and drilled a hole through the length and sloted it with the grinder. This allows the cable to be sliped through the bolt and the nipple can sit in the nut when screwed together. The nut with the washer had two bars welded to it so that a pin could be used to attach it to the pedal.

Scot's do it better in Kilts.

FWIW, i made my pedal, used a small 19mm od tube to hold the clutch cable sheath (whatever its called...), judged it the right length to not need adjustment, then welded a bar onto the back of the bracket to stop the (bottom mounted) pedal falling forward. Works well, but i got the leverage a little bit too stiff (usable though) and it amplifies the lever effect (lots of resistance at first and then the pedal drops easier, so when letting the clutch out it suddenly springs up under your foot.) still works well though.

Can I use that without any major adjustments to the cable?
