My sump as standard is about 2inchs past the chassis, giving a ground clearance of around 2 inchs to the sump. Thats on a ford CVH with a pressed steel sump.
- Hit a few bumps (it does happen, and i do drive it just about anywhere) and i moved the bottom up nearly an inch.
- Fitted a cut and shut short-sump from a freinds cvhand its about inline with the chassis, but i have no oil capicity and the big ends hit it.

Mine has alloy spacers under the engine subframe mounts and it raises the engine by about an inch or so.

I think my sump sits about 30mm below the floorpan.
