Filmed on Motorway

Has anybody else had this happen to them.. driving back from Harrogate show down M1, just cruising at 70 ish and this transit van overtakes me and as i look up the passengers were filming / taking pictures of my car on their phones.

Had to overtake them a couple of times and they seemed to approve. Got a thumbs up.

did not appear to be police van. Had good day at Harrogate aswell. Has anybody else noticed the good attitude of people when your out in kit car. I have trucks pulling over etc to let me passed

Yeah - we always get at least one or two with a complimentary wave or comment. Occasionally the odd w*nker who makes his obvious ignorance very clear.

Was a very good (and very warm) day today... best day out for years!

Go on then...

A newly laid tarmac road around a smallish roundabout caught me out... nothing spectacular as I wasn't doing daft speeds. Nicely reversed into the exit junction though...

The tyres never gave me an incling of letting go either - no screech or warning, just snapped and wahayyy... was a bit fun actually!

Went around it again today actually in the Mazda6 faster than I went around in the se7en, just to satisfy my own curiosity that I wasn't travelling too fast... the Mazda managed it fine. Which points me to the tyres/suspension setup...

The picture was all that was left of my little piroutte!

Last Saturday week ago myself and a couple of other BEC mates went out for a spin, all the way down the Antrim coast road (if you're ever in NI look it up it's an amazing road). Lot's of cliffs, fast and scary.
It's maybe 70 miles down from Portrush to Carrickfergus where we showed the cars off at the NI Kit Car Club's open day.
We then drove on round to Belfast to the Craigantlet hillclimb (a round of the British Championship I believe). All our driving was at a fairly 'frantic' pace I have to admit.
We arrived at Craigantlet where a Police checkpoint allowed us to park up close to the races (nice of them!). As I pulled away from the police I heard a clunk, saw something come out from the front drivers side suspension, and a loud scraping sound started. As I had just pulled away form the police I was doing about 5mph when this happened. I pulled in immediately.
I am a very, very lucky man!
The nylock nut holding the bottom wishbone balljoint into the bottom of the upright had come out!!!
The front lower wishbone was now resting (scraping) on the inside of the alloy wheel.
If this had happened at any other time of the day I would have been probably dead! The nut in question was covered by an SVA nut cover so although I'd had a visual check around my suspension I hadn't spotted it working loose because it was covered. Suffice to say all the remaining SVA nuit covers came off immediately. The lads I was with knew a couple of hill climbers and we managed to round up a 19mm spanner and a jack, and we got the suspension put back together - a bystander found the missing nut and handed it to me - to my great embarrassment.
Just to add to my mortification, Jimmy Dougan (last years hillclimb & sprint champ - both in locosts) came down to see what all the fuss was about. What he must have thought of this idiot, upside down, trying to refit a 4th wheel to his car God only knows.
We travelled another 100 miles or so that day and the car was OK after that, but it really scared the hell out of me - as I said if it had happened at any other time God only knows - doesn't bear thinking about.
Moral of this story have a thourough shakedown check after a few hundred miles (not 1800!) and get rid of the bloody SVA nut covers - they only hide any loose nuts!

Ali - you need to replace that nylock nut with a new one before using the car again!

I had a bottom ball joint strip it's nut completely. I was doing about 40 round a left hand and the right side just let go completely with the wheel flailing about on the top joint. I replaced the maxi joint and nut as I didn't trust it after that. I was surprised that the car still steered round the bend with a wheel effectively doing nothing. The two bolts holding the joint in saved the wishbone from hitting the road as they were ground down to the nyloc.

Last year I bought a second-hand 626, and am thoroughly impressed with its cornering ability. Bought it as an econobox thrasher and found myself with a nice little sports sedan.

Must agree with the handling - it's really very good. Tacky/flimsy interior trim lets it down. That and being pretty unreliable.

I did something similar a few years back in my first car - a triumph toledo. driving back at night (dark) and hadn't noticed when i neared home that it had rained a little. not enough to really notice, but enough to make the road slightyl greasy after the warm day earlier. turned into a t junction enthusiastically and went all the way round, stopped as if i was turning back out the other way! DOH! The trusty toledo was the only rwd car I've owned and had on the road (well, i drive the girlfriends bmw compact every now and again, but don't like to talk about it )
