Re-working engine and Fuel system
After a bit of too and fro with this thread -> Here
The current setup is :
1.8 Zetec with Alloy top ( i'll get numbers off it if required)
Home made Inlet Manifold
Zetec Injectors
GSXR Carbs, being used as throttle bodies, not sure if I have a fuel return
Engine management is :
Megasquirt
With Wasted Spark Control
Wideband Lambda sensor
Air Temp Sensor
Water Temp Senor
Crank Sensor
Can runs but is constantly High on HC and is very rich.
Thinking more of the other thread and now contemplating pulling and stripping the ZETEC and then once it is check and rebuilt looking at options for
either putting it back to "Stock" injection or something, that we can get tuned. Been looking at Burton Power and I cannot justify a
Jenvey Throttle body Kit.
I have something like 8 months till the weather (next year) improves so 8 Months to -Rebuild and solve all the problems that have kept my car off the
road for the best bit of 4 years.
Lets take this back to the drawing board and plan the engine and fuel management correctly so I don't again spend more money on half solutions.
Budget for back on the road has to be no more that £750-£1000.
I need to also do some re-wiring and overhaul the brakes and master cylinders as its been sitting so long.
Scot's do it better in Kilts.

Silly questions, do you have an inlet manifold leak ? Have you bunged up all of the fuel/air holes in the carbs so they work as throttle bodies?
You can use WD40 to spray around the joins, any leaks will change the idle.

There should be nothing inherently wrong with your set up, used many times before (Zetec + bike bodies + MS).
To be honest, if you are going to pull the engine, strip and rebuild, by the time you have paid for new stretch bolts, gasket set etc. it will be
cheaper to buy a SH blacktop zetec that you have heard running off ebay/scrappers and install that (all parts should just bolt on, just need to watch
the water pump pulley direction and possibly sump). £150-250 for the engine, get it up and running and spend £3-400 on a rolling road session.
I had the same dilemma with my 1.7 puma engine, suspected bent valve, £90 for a new running engine, swap over the bits is easier than diagnosing and
fixing. The beauty or new throw away engines/cars.
