Bike Engined Car

I have recently bought a Blade engine from a breakers, i have been told that to enable me to register the car i need a copy of the log book from the bike it came out of or a copy of the breakers certificate is this true??

This mite be a daft stupid question but im sure there will be many more to come
its a fireblade on carbs the fuel was gravity fed on the bike, do i need to use a fuel pump if i do any recommendations.

I also want some clocks of a 929 fireblade any ideas apart from ebay?

Cheers Mike

P.S Went to harrogate show and was good to look round Indy's That were finished, some very nice cars.

I'm told by the DVLA and VOSA that you don't need the identity of the engine. If you don't have it then it will be tested for emmissions as a new engine. If you want to avoid catalyst emmissions then you need to prove that your engine was made before May 1995 (I think) A copy of the V5 showing engine number and data of first registration will do that.

The fuel pump off the bike will do, or any low pressure fuel pump.

As for clocks, go to a bike breakers. Better still, go to the one that you got the engine from. While you are their, get the coils, the CDI, the regulator and wiring loom.

Or you could try colibriman on this site who sells bike engines and associated bits.

For the engine date... been there done that... take a look at this thread.

As smart51 said if you don't already have all the extra bits for the engine then you'll need 'em. Being a bike related bit of kit they aren't cheap brand new i.e. £70 for a regulator.

As for clocks... if you're making up your own wiring loom you have the chance to use other clocks as opposed to the original bike instrument cluster. I prefer the look of separate clocks as it is a car at the end of the day but I can see the benefit of taking the easy route and using the bike ones.

As for engine date before you part with your hard earned cash you could do as I did.

I just emailed a number of Honda dealers stating the engine number and asked them to confirm the date of it. I sent about 5 emails and two came back by email with confirmation of the date.

One faxed me a copy of the letter so it wasn't just an email and the other emailed me a letter in word format for me to print off, both were on headed paper.

SVA man had no problems whatsoever with this, I also took the blade manual which lists engine numbers\dates just in case.

Rich.

You'll not get away from stricter emissions test at SVA cos engine is a 929 - which is post 1995 anyway, so I wouldn't even bother trying to prove it's age. Next you need to decide if you want an age related plate or a Q plate. If you don't mind a Q plate, again, you won't need any proof of where the parts came from. If however, you want an age related plate, you'll need a suitable V5 from a donor vehicle (preferably a car).

Any fuel pump from a similar engined bike should be suitable, as long as it's carbed and not fuel injected.

As others have said, a bike breakers would be good for the clocks, although I doubt they'd be any cheaper than e-bay

Yep. Can confirm what Chris says. Our 893cc is dated July 1995. Cut off date for emissions is 31st July 1995.

PS. Looks like Worksop may soon have its own MK Owners club at this rate!!!
