electronic speedo pickup

using tripode joints and drum brakes the option for the pickup for an electronic speedo seems to be magnets as you can't use the bolt heads of the lobro type
My question is if I got chris PTM to make up a short length of tube with a flange made out of 9mm plastic welded to the tube and then held on by 3 or4 self tappers to the outer tripode cover I could then tap the flange to mount 6 short bolt heads. would this idea throw the balance of the shaft out to much

I encountered a similar problem before, and all I did was to glue the magnets on with some of the thick, gap-filling type super glue (Hot Stuff - green label springs to mind). Just to be on the safe side, I wrapped some of that glass fibre reinforced clear sticky tape around the magnets just once (so as not to interfere with the air gap).
The tape disapeared at some point (don't think I overlapped it enough), but the magnets stayed put!
