throttle pedal cable problems-help!!
for the third time now i have had the cable snap at the pedal-a very tough 6 mile drive home pulling the cable by hand and trying to paddle
shift!!!!!!.
the cable currently is held by a screw type barrell nipple in the pedal-this i feel is most of the problem as when you tighten it i think it is
damaging the cable(crushing strands and breaking).
pedal is standard mk indy with mounting at bottom of footwell, making any work on it a real joy.
any ideas?

What about soldering the nipple on?

Cable
I use a 3mm diameter steel ball, raided from bicycle parts, between the M4 clamp screw and the cable to reduce damage to the cable strands.
This though will not cure any problems caused by lack of cable articulation.

The trouble is the movement at pedal end exceeds that at the buttefly end.
At the carb/throttle body end the quadrant should not be pulled tight on to the stop, you want about 1 to 2mm lost motion.
Cure is simple fit an adjustable pedal stop.
Common mistake -- partly perpetrated by some car mags and rolling road operators over many years.

i have a very good adjustable pedal stop in place-it is not getting over streched its just the fastening/clamping whilst allowing for rotational
movement which is causing the problem- i can not get in there to solder it(unless i cut a big hole in the floor(which i have seriously considered to
aid access)).any thoughts on clamping ie between 2 washers-but then also allowing for it to rotate within the pedal???

just to finish up, my bits arrived today in a jiffy bag with 65 pence postage on it!!!!.anyway the clevis initially looked like a fail but after
chopping of the end of the pedal, and then welding on a new plate,i managed to use the u shape bracket(after having welded the nipple in to it),and the
supplied quick release plate to work.3 hours graft and some more scarring to the knuckles all seems well again.i would post a pic but its nigh on
impossible to get a shot of it.thanks for everyones thoughts-cheers rich
