Best way to get the sierra Handbrake on my Indy

I have unclipped the sierra hand brake cable from the car but it is still running thru some holes (just infront of diff)from the shell

Is it advisable to cut the hand brake cable to get it out which seems like the only option at the mo, if so wheres the best place to cut is seeing as im going to need to shorten it anyway

Im running disks on the rear and if i cut it how am i going to link it back up to the cable end with the eye which attaches onto the caliper hook?

Can you solder it ? do i put a new nipple on it ? but theres no nipples on it currently so how would that help ?

do i need to buy a new eye to attach on to the part of the cable i cut off ??

Please describe in detail how you did it so i can follow your prcedure

Thanks Very much Rich and Greggors

You will need to cut the cable (in the middle!). Use all of handbrake lever parts (lever and balance bar). I joined my cable back together using 4 (2 per side) small M5 u-bolts. Pass the two ends of the cable round the balancer and u-bolt the open cable ends to the opposite cable........confusing without pics but it makes sense when you're doing it.

How do Ford get the cable in in one piece if you have to cut it to get it out?

It does come out in one piece, you have to disconnect it from the brake shoe operating lever and then feed it back through the holes in the chassis. Unfortunately, yo umay find that a quantity of road-borne crud has made its way onto/into/around the cable and seized it (that's what happened to mine anyway) so I'll have to buy a new one

Richy, youve probably got a haines manual for the sierra, but if you haven't and need to have a look at one to see how to remove the cable, then i've got the manual in handy (e-mailable) pdf format, i can send you the brakes chapter or any other section you need to see for referance...

send me a u2u with some e-mail details and its yours for the asking......
