MK rollbar bolts

Does anyone know what bolts MK use on their demo cars to hold the rollbar on? They're kinda tapered so they sit nicely on the surface with no sharp edges. I think Baz said they get them from a window manufacturers or something

bolts n washers

The bolts on the demo car are 45 degree with a turned up alloy washer, you could use standard, cheese head, with different alloy washers not to sure if the main roll bar tube will stop the bolt heads from being contactable or not? i fyou have a copy of demontweeks mag, they have a large range of washery things, hope that is of some help

Bolt Size

What thread size are they? We've just received our Chassis and MK don't have a build manual yet - so my question is what size do we need to secure Roll Bar. I'm guessing to use the rivnuts as it goes into the Square section tube or do we drill straight through? We say about 8mm x 1P ?? to suit rivnut... YES?

I used 4 off M10 8.8 hex screws for each 'foot'. I drilled straight through the box section for the inner bolts and put 3mm thick 25mm wide steel spreader plate underneath between the bottom of the box and the nyloc nuts, fettled to clear the weld. M10 black plastic nut covers on the bolt heads that were on top cover the sharp edges.

Ideally the ones that go through the box section should have a tube that passes through the lower face and clamps against the top face but this is a bit more awkward to implement.

I'd be a bit dubious about using Rivnuts for this application.

Cheers,

Colin

call me an old git if you like, but are you seriously considering rivnuts for something that's there to save your life if you roll it?

i would do as CairB said, also i'd consider using a second nut as a locknut (i know it's not needed with nylock nuts) and to add a bit of strength

Yeah I was thinking of using rivnuts but a) didnt know how to fit them and b) didnt think they looked all that strong. ive decided to bolt straight through the bars under the mounting plate. shouldnt be difficult to do although you do need to move the outside bolts towards each other to avoid other bars below. I'm thinking of using M8 bolts, 4 on each side, do you think this will be strong enough?

By the way CairB, have you got any photos of your rollbar mounting?

personally i'm thinking of going for M10-M12 bolts, but that's because i'm a fat git and would rather be safe than sorry

may be worth having a look at this thread
