broken side stay

just a warning to anyone about to do this job on their build. I've been having fun with with these and last night was no different.
I'd managed to ben the flat bar to except the front wing and it still needed adjustment. Applied heat to try and make things easier and bang the flat bar snapped.
So even with heat it appears that you can only really bend these things twice before running the risk of breaking them unless of course you have access to more heat than a plumbers torch.

Just hope it doesn't take forever to get a replacement from MK

Yep I bent mine cold and did it several times to get it right!

Sounds like MK have been using some unusual steel to make these

It only really needs to be very basic Mild steel strip and that will bend many times over before breaking.

I had no probs with my MK ones. Bent them loads and no sign of splitting at all.

should of known that getting a replacement was going to be easy!!!! first they sent one out for the wrong side and recommended forcing it to fit

That was two weeks ago and still nothing, they keep saying they'll ring me back but so far jack!!!

You'd think they'd be glad of numpty's like me breaking things as they make more money selling replacements

Anyone else had fun getting MK to send things out even when you pay for a courier?

why order a new one why not just grind the weld down were the flat bar goes in the squashed round tube and use a new peice of flat bar,
The way I bent mine was to do the above bend the bracket to suit mudguard the weld it back into the squashed tube

I would try and repair it but for two problems

1) not owning or knowing anyone with a grinder

2) not being able to weld

It was £20 for the new stay which didn't seem a bad price. It's just a shame that they can't get anything delivered. At the moment it's being put down to the back log caused by the postal strikes which seems weird as the one that did get here but was for the wrong side took two days.

Ayone in the MK area able to confirm whether they are still expereincing problems with the post after the recent strikes? or are MK just fobbing me off

Thanks
Nigel
