Sierra Front Hubs
Can the Cortina front hubs be used instead of the Sierra ones, as in my opinion the Cortina ones look a lot better and I happen to have a pair in the
shed?

they'll accept the same balljoints, its just whether the dimensions from the hub/spindle to the balljoint holes are the same. come to think of
it, the top will be adjustable from the screw in/out transit joint, the only other difference might be to track/wheel offset.
What have i forgotten/missed?

The balljoints i got (ones recommended in the 1st book) DONT fit the Sierra Front Hubs (bottom joint) and the Track Rod End Balljoint is different
too.....
Had to drill the bottom balljoint taper bigger, and the track rod end, is too small for the hole in the sierra hub.
Well, thats what I have found anyway !
So that leads me to think that the balljoint supplied for the Sierra Hubs.... wont fit the Cortina Ones !

i think mk sells hubs that are already drilled up to the correct taper and size, and probably then uses normal cortina BJs. My rack fit fine, but then
of course it would cos its a sierra rack! never heard about drilling the track rod hole, so maybe people just use the sierra ends.
anyone know the correct taper for the cortina BJ? some good money in that i reckon...

The track rod end hole is too big on the sierra hub for escort track ends..... Hence why you have to use larger sierra ones!
Correct Taper; easy just measure the ball joint that fits !
If MK sell sierra hubs already drilled, then cortina hubs should fit in theory.

I've just fitted the MK modified Sierra hubs to my Indy. I think you would be better using the Sierra hubs as MK have designed the wishbones;
length/castor/camber etc around them.
From what I can see it would be very easy to upset this relationship.
Also assuming that you have a Sierra doner car then you already have the hubs for free and MK include the cost of modifying them in the basic kit.
And as ConRod points out the Cortina ones are worth £££ which would buy you some nice shiny parts for the Indy.

i remember someone saying that astra mk2 bottom balljoints fit a standard sierra bottom upright hole, if you want avoid drilling to fit a cortina
one.

Apologies! not required Nick
I am now thinking of buying the INDY over the full locost chassis build. I may still try and shoe horn the Sierra DOHC engine in though, as the engine
was cheap and brand new (1989) and even though not common there seems to be a few people trying to use them.
I will need to try and locate a good local ali welder though for the sump. If not possible to use the engine I can always sell the engine (ebay).
