exhaust bobbin

Morning all

Got to the stage of mounting the silencer to the chassis. I have a bobbin which is 40mm long and with a small spacer fills the gap brilliantly between the chassis and the exhaust.

Is there any problem with mounting the bobin straight through the chasis rail or is it wiser for some reason to have a bracket between the bobbin and the car?

All input welcome

Cheers
Nigel

Probably OK, but what sort of engine mounts have you got? If there is a different amount of flex in the mounts for engine and exhaust, you might get more stress on one (probs the exhaust one as the engine has more mass!). A bracket would give a bit more flexibility.

Having said that, I used Land Rover engine mounts for both my engine and the exhaust can. The exhasut one is bolted through the side with no additional bracket.

So... you can probably ignore what I said!... or not: your choice.

(Sorry - Monday morning ramble)

i've mounted mine into 2 steel m6 rivnuts in the underside of the chassis rail. the L shaped bracket then has the bobbin mounted to it.

my motivation for doing it that way is that if i ever decided to change the engine, there'd be no marks left in the side panel from the exhaust which would ineveitably be on the other side with anything other than a duratec.
