MK Sportscars USA

We (skydivepaul & Alan b) are proud to announce that we are now the agents for MK sportscars in the USA.
Operating out of our 6000 square foot garage in Longwood 10 miles North of Orlando and our R&D facility near Melbourne we have a large workshop with four lifts and a showroom at the front and a 2000 square foot machine shop.
We will be offering kit and accessory sales as well as part and fully built cars to our customers requirements. Initially we will have two MK Indy kits and two Indy R kits available with full bodywork and running gear. Two demonstrators will be available, one with bike engine power and the other with a 2 litre four cylinder engine.
The cars and kits will be here with us early August 2008.
For our customers who prefer us to build a complete car for them we will also offer full after sales service and repair for the car at our garage which will be a first in the kit car industry here in the USA.
These are very exciting times for us out here in Florida where the weather is perfect for open top sports car driving and we can introduce the BEC to the mainstream kit car world here.
Please take a look at our website www.smartsportscars.com this has an introduction to what we are doing and we are in the process of building a bespoke site for the MK’s.

Thanks

Paul & Alan

Congratulations lads. I've only ever met Paul once while he was packing up his house ready for off, and he seems like a thoroughly nice chap. I also now understand why he was a little guarded re: his future plans

Anyways, how's about a specialist rental service for us UK BEC owners visiting the US?

"Major components such as differential, rear drive shaft, front uprights, braking system, steering rack and column all come from the popular and easy to locate Ford Sierra." Yes in the UK! Have you checked shipping costs?

While I wish you nothing but good fortune with the venture, there are NO Ford Sierras in North America. So you can't say they are readily available to us. I think you should be making that clear.

The main problem building a car like this in North America is a total lack of donor cars: the MX5's cost a fortune and there is nothing else that will work (that has been made in the last 20 years.) The whole concept of these cars as "kits" doesn't fly in North America - unless the person is prepared to spend more than a good, roadworthy, second hand MX5: upwards of $25,000. I am way over that and I'm not done. The only carbon fibre is in the front wings, by the way.

I just don't want anybody else to be led down the garden path to frustration when important parts are not available locally. I know all this first hand!

So, getting down to brass tacks, how much do you want for a back panel, rear arches, and a nosecone?

We are shipping all major transmission components along with the kits and we will be offering them as part of the package so our customers dont have to go searching for those hard to find diffs etc. Thanks for pointing out the wording on the site we will be changing that asap.

let me know what bodywork you need and i can get that sent over for you

cheers

Paul

Just following on from this......

As Paul says the idea is to offer all the hard to find parts with the kits so as to create a relatively painfree and cost effective build up. In time we will change over to US sourced components for the donor parts....some of this work is already done, but for now other than the engine and transmission the hard sourcing work will be done.

Eventually we hope to establish our own little niche rather than be direct competition to anyone in particular...... although to end up on the same shortlist as the Flyin' Miata's wouldn't be too bad. Starting with a good solid proven product will obviously help..we know it won't be easy, but we will work hard to make it successful.

LHD you are correct.
plus we supply with the kit a donor package, diff, prop, steering column, hubs, brakes, steering rack plus a list of goodies that are optional on the UK spec. It makes it easier for US builders to get straight on with the build (there are not many sierras out here) although the Merkur is basically a Sierra so donors and parts can be found if required. have a look at the website linky for the full list

cheers Paul

I sure wish you were around when I ordered my Deman (Demon is more like it...). That is a very reasonable price for your kit.

BTW I'm making a rear panel out of ally (2 parts because I couldn't get a big one in the car).
