Newbie with an MK

Another newbie just signed up. Myself and my old man just bought this:

Its probably 80% complete, engines in, brakes are complete, looms are in but not connected, still needs cooling + fuel plumbing etc etc. Some body and trim work still to be done too. The guy who we got it from appears to have done a sterling job to date so I hope we can do it proud!

Engine is a 2.0 pinto - I'm new to these engines (my previous experience is with turbocharged CVH's) so will no doubt be asking lots about this.

So anyway, enough from me for now

Me and my old man..... I'm sure he's impressed

I guess the truth is its your dad's car and he might let you have a go.

Never under estimate a mid life crisis because there are plenty of us on here , I guess.

Enjoy, and make sure you let your dad have a go from time to time

To help with the SVA application you will need lots of photos and receipts for major items like the chassis. Did you managed to get hold of any photos from the bloke who started the build and receipts for various bits.

– you will need at least a receipt for the car part built

Also as you finish it off take lots of photos and make it look like you did most of the work.

Good luck

Paul

Thanks for the replies. Sorry I havent replied sooner, I was struggling to get my account varified for some reason, but all sorted now.

Didnt know all that about the SVA. I'll have to have a look what we've got. Definitely got a receipt from the bloke we bought it from to document the transfer if thats what you mean? He also gave me a few pictures from his build as I've seen these in the folder he gave me. He 'scrapped' the donour vehicle as he was fed up of the SORN thing, however I do have a photograph of the slip of paper and also the old V5 i think. I also have the chassis plate - I must admit I've yet to have a good look through what we've got documentation wise, but the guy was very keen to keep everything traceable.
I 'think' I have receipts for the kit itself (chassis etc) but again i need to have a good look.

As for a weekend in the shed, hmmmm im thinking a little longer term than that! maybe ready early next year lol. I've got my last project to shift from the drive first (old 924S). I've got the LSD, rear disc hubs and a few other goodies coming off a mate who's breaking an XR4x4 - all for future upgrade. Anything else worth having off the XR whilst im at it?

Engine is a late injection sierra unit (205 block) - what sort of power can I expect with a stock head (although I believe this flows better than the older heads?) and 40's? The guy did a bit of a DIY refurb, ie head off, pistons out, honed it, reground valves etc, new cambelt. The plan is to run it like that for a bit and see how it goes, then build a proper 2.1 unit.

As for who's car it really is (mine or dads), well the story goes: I drive mates westy on a track day and get hooked, convince him to take my dad out in it, which in turn gets him interested, next thing he's stumped 3k to buy this! Plan is to sell the 924 and use the money to finish the mk.
