More POWER needed after nurburgring! Suggestions?
I have just got back from the Ring this weekend and i definitely need more power for my MK Indy!
I have a 1.8 Zetec and was going to supercharge it, but i dont think even that will quench my thirst for super car beating power!
I have three criteria;
1. Only a CEC will do
2. I want a different sound (not inline 4 its boring me)
3. 300bhp should be easily achieved.
So the floor is open gents,
Anyone fitted an M3 engine to an MK?

Great minds think alike, liam...
Unless you go for something very large (i.e. V8), you're looking at forced induction one way or another. If money is no object, then hunt down
a M3/M5 3.6 engine...but its long and heavy..

Aerodynamics play a large part with Ring laps simply because of the number of very high speed sections. This is something you will not achieve easily
with a 7 style car.
As a for instance my Phoenix with a 2lt Zetec has something like 20mph top speed advantage over my friends Tiger which is running a Duratec.

Then this might be a good option. Nothing like a 400 hp v8 busa engine, throw on some
forced induction and you're looking at huge power for very light weight. The base motor is only $28,500 USD
Here's a pic for you all to lust after...
H1 V8 Busa
Over 1000hp possible with forced induction
Over 1000hp possible!!

V8's are too big i think.
I agree with the wind resistance, it definately doesnt help with mpg! (which you notice driving to the ring)
Anyone done a rotary engine then? Any links to these volvos engines you're talking about?

Wouldn't your chepest/eaiest/quickest option be to Turbo your Zetec?
At least you know everything mounts.
But 300Bhp will need a steady supply of gearboxes.

For a more realistic engine, I'm a fan of the Nissan VQ35DE which was/is used in the 350z. There is also the VQ37DE, but those are quite new
and very costly.
OEM, the VQ35DE has 300hp and can easily be tuned for much more. It's fairly compact and has a good track record. IMO this would be a great
engine to use. You can find a wrecked 350z on the cheap and get both the motor and tranny from it.

Beagley - Thanks for the suggestion, i'll look into it, i can imagine that the gearbox is big!

Turbo 13B from an RX-7. Can get loony power, and it's incredibly light. Antnicuk has one in his Stylus - having seen it in action at Woodbridge
I can confirm it's very quick. The 3 foot long flame coming out the exhaust (all the time, not just on the overrun) looks cool too.

Oh, and according to my mate who works in F1, there is no such thing as 'too much power', only incorrect gearing.

I'm working on a shipping weight and dimensions for you at the moment. I didn't think it would be this hard to find an OEM parts dealer
that's open by lunch!
[edit] Spoke to a company and said the shipping weight is 63.5kg and the dimensions of the box are 79x20x20
Hopefully this will give you an approximate size of the thing. Good luck!

Nissan SR20DET, still a 4 cyl but very tuneable and turbo in standard form, lots of scope for easy tuning - the kind of engine you can get 350bhp out
of quite easily.

saab b234r 2.3 225hp as standard will run 280hp with a simple re- map . i bought a complete car for £600 with 140k on it the engine is superb and now
with a hybrid td04 turbo and bigger injectors runs 360hp . a rough car can be picked up for a few hundred and getting to 350hp is around £700. omega
box will bolt straight onto a post 94 engine. cant think of a cheaper way of making that sort of power

Does a turbo qualify as a "new soundtrack"? If so, i'll put a vote in for the Saab/Omega combo...

saab turbo or volvo turbo.
As froggy says, saab lump bolts stright to omega box and mv6 omega R28 box is tough, we have one living doign drag racing with 400hp turbo vauxhall XE
lump in front of it.
to use the saab though you really need aftermarket management, std ecu is no good due to various things
Retro RWD is the way forward...........automotive fabrication, car restoration, sheetmetal work, engine conversion
retro car restoration and tuning
