donor car

Hi

i have another question. i have a donor car on the drive. i want to try and obtain if possible the reg plate for my MK. i am not sure if i need to keep hold of teh car until i complete the build or if i can get rid now and just keep the logbook ect? what is the norm? do the dvla want to see the donor car or take any details off it?

If you use enough parts off of a donor vehicle (engine, gearbox, final drive, brakes, steering column and maybe wiring loom) then you will qualify for an age related plate. You can not have the same registration as the donor as to do this you would need the donor to 'MOTed' and Taxed to transfer a 'cherished' plate. Clearly this would not be possibly as the donor is now on/in your 'kit', so it will only be an age related plate.

you wont keep the actual reg number unless you place it on retention and later transfer. If you have the log book you may be given an age reralted plate

cheers for the feedback

if i then scrap the rest of teh car now, do i need to declare this on teh logbook ith dvla or wait till i register the kit? i didnt want to declare the donor scrapped just incase dvla take the logbook of me?
