Vaux C16XE oil capacity (sonic / mediablokes old car)

Hi there,

Just wondered if anyone can help.

I want to change the oil and filter on my MK Indy which has a vauxhall 16xe engine, but don't know what the oil capacity is as its got a shortened sump.

It used to be sonic/mediablokes old car so hoping that they know.

Also what oil grade would be best...from what i have read its either 10/30 or 5/40 ??

Hope someone can help.

Peter.

You fill it to the mark on the dipstick, the top of the oil stays the same however deep the sump. Too high and the crank will beat the oil into a frothy mess.

Phoned the local ramblers club today, but the bloke who answered just
went on and on.

OK that sounds like common sense.

The engine should take 3.5l, so will start off around 2.75l and work up until I hit the max mark ?!

Any other comments ?.

Also most forums suggest 10w40 semi oil......does this sound right ?
