looking for inspiration
Hi guys,
Ive just sold my mk indy busa to another chap on the forum and now am looking for a little help for where to go next with my dosh. Obviously im
looking at other mk's and other 7 styled cars to see if anything floats me boat. Im also toying with the idea of MEV's Tr1ke as there are
a couple of those for sale about. Now I know a lot of u would disagree with this but the one engine I want which do not seem to be in any cars is the
late cross plane crank r1 engine. I know people say they're poo for BEC's etc but they produce a lovely sound. They cant be that slow
surely. Does anyone know of anyone that's even used that engine in a car. Ive seen one car on youtube and that's it.
I am even toying with the idea of leaving the BEC market and going CEC (I don't want to cause an argument about whats better just been
contemplating it) but only with something high powered or forced induction.
Please help, any ideas welcome

I had a ride on a cross plane R1 last year and the performance is just epic, the sound was something else too.
It may not be as quick as an S1000RR or anythign but so much more character.

I don't understand why they haven't been used at all. Ive seen late cars fro sale built in the last 2-3 years still carrying old r1
engines. Im assuming its cost but when I last spoke to Malcolm at Yorkshire engines he said u can pick up complete late r1 engine packages for good
money. That would be my personal choice, if a mk indy r1 come up for sale carrying the late engine id be all over it. I just think there as rare a
rocking horse shit

I quite fancied a TR1ke or Atomic with either a triumph 1050 triple for character and Britishness (with optional rotrex supercharger) or the x-plane
R1.
Virgin raced the previous generation R1 in BSB with cross plane cranks years ago and they sound evil then.

Don't get me wrong I love the noise my busa produced when I was ringing its neck but theres summing about a v twin, v4, triple or the x plan r1
that just sound that much better. There was a sp1 atomic that sold very recently which id have thought would've floated my boat but it was a
left hooker. Not the end of the world but would've annoyed me none the less. RSV engine is another that have been in atomics. I defo don't
want to stick to the generic 7 style normal bike engine route this time. Had an r1 and busa mk's and now its time to be different
Cant say ive heard a x plane crank on the road but theres countless yuotube vids where theyre running akraprovics, leon vince or two brothers exhausts
and they just sound immense

The sound seems to swing between, V4, V2 and V8 as you go up and down the revs on the x-plane R1.
The black and gold bikes are quite tasty but they all have a face that only a mother could love.
I've had a couple of twins and they are nice but not exactly smooth at low revs

I like the idea of the VFR12OO as mentioned in another thread on here, shaft driven so no issues with fitting it between the chassis like other
V4's
Also DCT gearbox, only doubt would be the strength of the DCT box/clutch system as its not been used in a car before?

I like the sound of that to. They produce good power as well and must be torquey. I don't know if anyone has stuck one in a car yet or is
building one at all?? The whole dct box sounds awesome but it being reliable on a car is another kettle of fish

This is what a big bang mk indy sounds like, this is the only evidence that one exists. I even commented on it at the time as well sounds the
nuts

I brought up the VFR1200 on another thread as it's what I have on the road, I think it would take the pounding in a car as the clutch is just
actuated in a different way, the basic components that transmit the drive are the same.
