Wheel sizes, offsets etc
(nb have also posted ths under running gear)
Forgive me, I know this has been discussed before and have looked through the archive....
.....but am still none the wiser.
Can anyone clarify; I know Ford wheels are 4 stud, but are they all the same PCD/offset or are they different depending on model?
I'm going to be using the mk kit, so sierra uprights, are there specific sizes I should be going for in terms of offset etc? I'm planning
on 13" rims for low spinning weight at each corner.
e.g. are escort rs alloys suitable as a direct fit? or others?
Additionally can anyone tell me what width rim will fit under mk arches (I'm gonna be using 13" rims) and tyre sizes if anyone knows...

i'm also interested in this item.
as i'm looking for some very light wheels.
Do 13"or 14" fit or only 15".
Width? fronts 7" rear8"?
fronts 195/205 rear 215/225 mm??
any suggestions for light wheels?
max 5 kg each

Koen,
I'll be using 13" rims as they're normally lighter (unless you pay shed loads for magensium wheels) than 14 or 15" rims.
tyres are normally cheaper too (race or road).
tyres are lighter than wheels so small wheel, slightly taller tyre gives lower spinning weight on the axle.
I want to know what 13" rims I can use and what width (eg should i get some minilite/superlite 13x6's or 7's or use mk2 escort
rs2000 type alloys etc) and what will fit under the wings front/back respectively.

OZ superleggras are the lightest cast wheels you can get, 4.8kg in 15 inch
And you can get them for about £100 each

rwd rs 4 spokes do fit but the offset is 19
this makes the outer rim sit well outside
the rear wheel arch my capri laser 4 spokes did the offset is 19 on them
i was going to go for 17s but unsure
of offset to

do 13" wheels actualy go over the brakes on a sierra, i am pretty sure they won't go over rear discs, dunno about the front though..

the crap ones i have for rolling my indy
about on are off a 1.6l and i think the offset is 32 look a good offset but are way
to thin

All 4 stud Ford wheels are 108pcd. The right size to go for would be 6.5x15 ET38 offset with 195/55-15 tyres.

My main reason for asking (thanks to all you that have replied already!) is that I want to use the car on the track and thinking of using some avon
racing slicks, as far as i know only come/or are cheaper in 13" variety and an old set of rs2000 escort alloys or buyong some wide minilites
would be just the ticket (and be cheaper than brand new road 15's or 17's
Anyone racing an Indy? What rims/tyres do you use??

Just to add I believe someone's racing an indy in the 750mc's road going bike engined championship - anyone got any info on this car? i
see from the regs they run msa list 1a or 1b (yoko a509's ?) as a control tyre - what size are these??
yes, maybe i should post this under racing, but it is only specific to the 1 mk entered into the championship !

Buy Avon 13"slicks??
get yourself along to an F3 meet and have a chat with he Avon fitters, they have let me have some F3 cast offs in the past, a lot of the F3 boys have
a big budget and change tyres like they are going out of fashion....

Hi,
Viper asked if the 13" Capri Laser wheels would fit over Sierra rear disk brakes. I don't think anyone answered this question and
I'd be interested in finding the answer - Anyone??
I ask because I have been offered a set of 5 wheels 13x6J with nuts and legal(just) tyres for £40 which seems good if they'll fit. I need
something to roll my chassis around on (once I get it rolling that is...) and these would do nicely.

I think they might fit with a bit of judiciuos grinding of the caliper (if using rear discs) but don't hold me to that. Doesn't someone
have a wheel to try on a back end? How hard can that be?

I fitted 15" 6J Zetec Fiesta wheels ET52, fit just right. Suspect I could have gone to ET30 ish before they stuck out beyond rear arch. You need
to decide wheel width before you decide on what ET value.

Hi,
My car is a non-book design based on a 4" wider chassis and sierra running gear so I'll probably be lucky to get off the shelf arches to
fit anyway...
Besides, I though that using the wrong offset had detrimental effects on handling and suspension geometry by virtue of changes to scrub radius. I
doubt it will make much difference on the back but assuming you use the same wheels on the front you will surely have problems won't you? (ps.
not trying to be clever here since I don't fully understand the scrub radius argument.)
So is offset something that can be varied to suit the wheelarches or should it not be kept at ET19 as per spec? Then if you want wider wheels you just
get wider arches.

Ok,
so assuming wheel diameter is unimportant does anyone know what offsets suit what rim widths?
eg 6", 6.5", 7" ??
I am considering changing/uprating calipers to suit ones that fit in a 13" rim, I've heard metro turbo twin pots are quite good?

Im completly with you when you want to put on 13" rims on an indy becaust of the performance and cost improvements but im not sure that it is
the best size for me to fit to mine.
What size of wheels was the indy's suspension designed to use?
Im also unsure whether there will be enough ground clearance and as there is a lack of room for calipers. Also they dont look as good so i may go for
a compromise between them both and use a 14" rim.

Yes,Conrodkid is right about the 13"s not going over rear caliper on sierra set up.
I,ve got 14s from a 4x4 sierra on mine and must admit its still a bit of a tight route for the handbrake cable,i've decided there are great
wheel tyre combo's to be had so i'll save my hard earned a bit more i think.

When you say ET35 is it 35mm? Does anyone know of a diagram on the internet that explains all this.
Im thinkin of going for 7x15" with 195/50 tyres and want to make sure that they will fit under the arches. But i also want to go for the right
offset, because as someone said i think it does effect the handling quite alot. Not sure about the scrub radius.
What is the recommened offset for the indy?

To answer Ned about Metro calipers - they seem fine and leak proof - give good brakes on a metro which should indicate they would work well on a
lighter car.
No need to look specifically for Metro Turbo ones, however. All later A series engined metros have the four pot calipers - even the humble 998cc ones.
Can get whole cars for nothing so calipers should be v. cheap.
