Wishbone / chassis bracket alignment

When offering up the wishbones to the
chassis brackets.... just how easily should
these things fit together?

And after "persuading" them into place
how free should the wishbones move when pushed about by hand?

Cheers

Steve

They will stay up on their own, but should be easily moveable.

When you have the crush tubes clamped and if they are greased then they shouldnt stick or bind.

Do you mean with the bushes and tubes fitted?
If so they can be quite stiff even when greased up.
Or do you mean something differnt?

My crush tubes were way too big and not cut square at the ends.

I got them squared up and now they are
just proud of the bushes each end.

Well covered in copper slip and then bolted in place.

Its just some of the wishbones are more than just a bit difficult to get into the brackets.
ie The first end goes in no problem but the other end needs a fair bit of coaxing.

As for "easily moveable"..if the wishbone stays horizontal with no load and a 0.5KG
weight is applied (500ml can of bud) would that cause it to drop?
Sorry but im trying to establish a point of reference....by calibrating with cans of beers

Cheers

It was the combination of not thinking the bones were moving freely enough
and the fact i had to work them into the chassis brackets which caused me to worry
that the wishbone / chassis brackets were being placed under stress even under no load conditions.

While im not particularly happy about shoe horning them into position at least I know im not alone.

Mine where the same. The amount of force you are applying is nothing compared to the breaking/cornering forces applied to the bones when driving. I think it's just the tolerance after welding (heat distortion).

Surely after 10 cans of beer it doesn't matter how tight they are!!

Yip mine were the same.

As long as the wishbones move with no binding they should be fine.

Doesnt appear to be any binding.
The movement is smooth under a constant
"push" pressure.
This has eased the nerves a bit. Cheers
