Caterham Wheels
I have had a look at these Caterham Wheels, as they are very light, around 5kg for a 15" and look quite nice of course. They are standard Ford
studs 4x108, 6,5 wide and ET19. Will they fit an MK? I realize the normal fitment would be ET38 for 6,5x15's, which means these would be about
19mm further out in the Arches in the back. I assume a tweeking of the cycle brackets would be sufficient at the front.
First of all, will they still fit, and secondly, will the handling of the car change, as you are effectively changing the geometry by making the track
38mm wider, front and rear?

Hi, I probably not much help but bought some et 23 ford fitment alloys for mine(mnr vortx)recommended by MNR for cortina front uprights and apparently
handle better on the track

Well, yes they will fit.
BUT - they may adversely affect the handling as the track and geometry has been altered. It also loads the hubs a little more than a standard MK is
designed. I wouldn't worry too much about this as the weight is substantially less.
The rear arches would also need to be 'filled' out a little using maybe a strip of aluminium or GRP to cover the tyres.
They are a cracking wheel and would look the nuts IMHO...

I tried some caterham HPC wheels when I was building mine, the looked the nuts, but they stuck out the arches too much and couldnt find an elegant
solution. The HSA were an inch wider anyway than the recommended wheels so it was even worse.
As hellfire says the the lighter weight and less use of the car shouldnt cause too many problems with over loading the components although it will
upset the geometry but I dont think its that finely tuned anyway!

Hi,
nice looking wheel but as the others have said, the offset is likely to be an issue. There are other wheels out there that are similar to the
Caterham and have the correct offset. I've got a set of 15" OZ Ultraleggera alloys for my Indy, which are ET43 offset if I remeber
correctly. I got a set of four shod with Toyo Proxes T1-S tyres, 5mm spacers to bring them out to ET38, centre caps and a set of wheel nuts,
including locking nuts all for £500.
