Zetec Indy?

Hi, I'm looking to put a zetec in my indy and have got a few questions for anyone who might be able to help out! here goes...

Is it best to go for the 1.8 or 2L? are they basically the same block or is the 2 bigger?

Do MK supply an exhaust for a zetec? I've already bought one for a pinto, can i use the same tail pipe and silencer and just replace the manifold?

How much will I be looking at for a manifold?

Does the standard EFI on the zetec fit under the bonnet? I'd like webers or throttle bodies but cant really afford them yet, was looking at them as a later upgrade?

Any help would be much appreciated

Thank

Pete

Not sure if MK supply zetec exhaust, but their supplier made me one from scratch and also made a pattern for future copies, it cost me £350 for complete system. You will have problems using the original injection system as it is too large and a bit restrictive. Webers are popular, but there are also companies offering kits to allow the Ford injection throttle body and injectors to be fitted in a more compact setup. If you are buying parts new then there is very little between fitting carbs or modified Ford injection, seperate (Jenvey) throttle bodies are not a lot more and offer more power and if anything the easiest to fit.
Go for the 2ltr unless you are going racing in a 1800 class, both work out the same cost but you get a bit more power. I did make a pattern for MK to fabricate some mounts for me but not sure if they still have it or sell them.

How much does it cost to completely replace the fuel system? I'm just after a rough price guide for carbs or throttle bodies.

Also, do you need a catalytic converter in the exhaust?

Pre "95 (Aug I think) no need for a cat and poss to pass on carbs, post "95 cat needed. You can pick either age engine up for about the same price, cat will add about £200 to cost of injection system. New carbs and manifold will be about £600 ish and about another £500 for ECU. I got my throttle bodies and ECU for about the same £1100, then £25 for set of s/h injectors. You could get the carbs s/h in which case you will save money but will more than likely need them rejetted. If you budget for £2000 (using all new parts, less if you mod sump etc) inc £500 for a good s/h engine you should have the engine and gearbox fitted and running. For that you should have 160-170BHP and good reliability, this compares well with the £2000 plus you would spend on a rebuilt and tuned Pinto giving 160BHP. As said before sums only work out if you want to up the power above standard Pinto. I you go for the zetec hunt a good one down that you can hear running, there are so many in salvage yards this should be easy.
