Complete engine package

I'll be honest im rather new to kit cars always loved them and decided to take the plunge. have spoken to MK and will be ordering my kit in 2 weeks but now have to find an engine. After talking to MK i've decided to go for an r1 engine. What i'm wondering is what engine is better the carbed or injected? Also what is a involved in a full kit car package what parts do i need as well as the engine? Also anyone know any knocking about at the moment?

Any help would be great. Thanks

Welcome to the forum.

Engines first:-

Have a search for Malc from Yorkshire Engines, he's usually your best point of contact for fresh engine packages.

The basic list tends to be:-

Essential:-

Engine with matched:-
Carbs / Throttle Bodies
Wiring Loom
ECU / CDi
Fuel Pump (depends if it is an in tank one or an external one) (also if going throttle bodies / Fi then it'll be a high pressure one / if going carb'd then you'll need a self regulating low pressure one).

Optional:-

Airbox (debatable as you might want a Pipercross filter instead)
Clocks (you might use them, or just use a digi dash, you might need them to sort fault codes depending on model).

In addition to the MK deluxe kit you'll need to source the following donor parts:-

steering rack (not pas)
steering column
steering column cowl
front hubs (not 4x4)
rear hubs
brakes front and rear (non abs)
drive shafts
prop shaft
diff
handbrake lever
battery

In addition you'll need the following kit car specific parts:-

Seats
Harnesses
Dash
Lights, front, rear, indicators etc
Radiator
Gear change mechanism
Fuel tank

I would advise to buy a sierra donor for your parts,I paid 120 quid for one and will also be able to get a age related plate on my indy from the donor.
As far as the engine goes you will need all the loom, ecu, rectifyer, all the sensors and relays, clocks and fuel pump can also be used.

if you get an age related plate you will have to have a emmision test at every mot but with a q plate it is only a look for smoke

3rd vote for Malc, top bloke.

If you look on the MK website they should have a list somewhere that tells you everything but it's pretty much as above.

Not so sure on the R1 specifically but don't forget to factor in things like a sump chop, sprocket adaptor and power commander etc. It's all the daft stuff like that you forget about that bumps up the cost
