I bought an non-solar powered one off eBay for £45. Seems to work well enough, and the build quality's OK too. Takes four AAA batteries, but I
imagine they'll last a while...

so do you get a warning when the batteries run out? or does it just stop working and the first time you realise you get arc eye!?

It's dark to start with, and the batteries make it go light. So should be no danger of that!

I bought one of those from that Guy.
They were going for around the £50 mark by the end of the auction.
He is very quick with the delivery.
Just watch a few of his auctions first to get an idea and set yourself a limit. I did and it paid off in the end. Paid £46 for mine.
Much cheaper than I've seen anywhere in the UK.

Yup, had two from ebay (one for me and one for my father) £40 a piece - both solar ones (no batteries) and adjustable from shade 9 - 13. No
complaints...

It's my understanding that autodarkening helmets protect against UV constantly whether in dark state or not, you just get a serious flash if it
goes into light state when you're looking at the arc - it's happened to me a few times when using tig in difficult positions and something
has got between the arc and the solar panel. No ill effects just a bit of a shock.

Got myself one of these auto darkening masks from ebay, £49.50 inc. postage from the states. Took less than a week to arrive too.
It's the bees-knees I've only used it a couple of times but it's much easier that the normal mask.
