Has anyone else seen this about UcanpullIt

Has anyone else seen the article in the may issue of Car Mechanics mag about the breakers called U Can Pull It.

You basically choose a car to dismantle from - buy it - they move it an area for you and you have upto seven hours (while their open) to strip what you want from it. The engine/box they remove (health and safety - and this costs 35 quid extra)

then when you've done they either crush whats left or stick it back out for the next pickings..

The fact that you do it on their premises appeals to me as it saves you having to dispose of whats left from your doner and all the clearing up of oils and fluids.

Just thought I'd share it with you all

my local scrappy quite happily lets you spend days pulling a car apart (sometimes it takes that long ) and you only pay for what you take away, doesn't even mind if you roll it over to get proper access

Personally I don't see the need for a 7hr dead limit or having to buy the car

Ucanpullit prices are a lot higher than the article makes out particularly for the models that are in demand.

UPI is the re-brand of simpson salvage IIRC. i bought my donor from simpsons.

its a great idea but unless you want the majority of car parts i dont see the point in buying the whole car. people building kitcars is quite a small sector of scrap dealing compared to individual parts sales.

I suppose it depends how much you are removing. If you're doing all the suspension then the traditional "four cars stacked on top of each other" model might be a bit tricky. Equally, if all you want is a handbrake lever and some wiper stalks to move the car and have a seven hour time frame doesn't make sense.....

The 7 hrs is the length of time they are open a day I guess..

Oh well - I just thought it was an idea - go strip a car pile it in a van or on a trailer and go...
