Spa make a good Mechanical gauge.
Although you need to be careful installing them because of the tube and the unions, they are very accurate and not prone to electrical failure. Most
race cars I have driven have mechanical gauges.
I have a dual mechanical oil pressure/water temp gauge on the MotaLeira. The advantage of the mech water temp is it displays the engine temp even
while the engine is off.
If your engine is anything like my R1, it will read low pressure at idle.
My R1 reads 6psi idle (normal) and around 60psi at 70mph.

I fitted an electrical one last year for it to fail and cause me to waste many hours looking at the engine! Mechanical is the way to go but i wouldnt
use the supplied push fit nylon pipework you get with most kits. I went to a local hydraulic place and got them to make me a braided pipe with bolt on
fittings for about £15. Works a treat.
I second the pressure readings, my ZX12 reads 25 psi at idle when cold, about 6 psi at idle when hot and around 75 psi at 6000 rpm.
Sorry about my spelling, im an engineer and only work in numbers.

Hi, I fitted a VDO electrical one, because it had the warning light option.
I have changed from a Racetech mechanical one, which is for sale. If you are interested in the Racetech one, please check here:
