Escort GT 1.8 engine?
Right. I have been looking around and i can find loads of articles about MX5 conversions using the engine from a Escort GT 1.8 1991-1995
as it is a lot cheaper to source.
Does anyone have any pictures of this engine? I assume it is the one on XR3i 1.8 16v here in UK.

Yup - 1.8 zetec it is!
I think on the years you quoted it may be the 115bhp silvertop rather than the later 130bhp blacktop that was put into the mk6 escort GTi

I am very courious about it as all the MX5 parts are so expensive.
It would be nice to know if you can mate these together.
eg. it's a lot easier to find an exhaust header of a zetec for a seven than build one from scratch for a mazda.

The XR3i engine differs to the GTi engine, the XR3i engine is a 130ps one, the GTi 115ps (in the UK at least).
Externally identical apart from the engine ID code

Do you have any pictures of the back side of the engine where the gearbox mounts?
Does anyone have a bolt patern of the engine on a drawing so i can check if the MX5 gearbox is a match?

Apparently is the 1991 1.8 engine from an escort GT.
It is not a Zetec one.

...which is a Zetec...unless its from an American Escort, in which case it could be a Mazda unit...
The 1.9 Escort GT from the USA was a CVH

Err, just checked, and no I don't
The engine bolts up to a standard Ford gearbox from the 50's 'til the late 90's, type9, mt75 etc.

It is only on USA cars. I have been trying to find cheaper components instead of getting mx5 parts.
Mazda and Ford do work together sometimes.
So i guess is either a 323 engine or a MX5
