So, my Mk is not going to 'ring anymore
I have had odd transmission noises in the last few weeks which have built up into a terrible sounding car.
A couple of weeks ago I thought it was Ok to drive and put up with it. The car still performed great but was grumbling around the prop/diff area (You
may have read various posts regarding this) I made a decision to do a pistonheads Kent Run on Sunday, so with crash helmet on I did 252 trouble free
miles.
Was ony when I had my lid off could I have the noises wer eback more than ever.
Managed to get it to a Transmission Specialist this mornign who is confident that the drive shafts splines are worn and the diff need an overhaul
(bearings and seals) They said there was no way they could do this before my trip to Ring (8am ferry 16th Weds Sept)
Really gutted, and having to go in the back of a mates car.
wish I had a bit more time to get it sorted/source some parts etc, but they also said there is no guarantee that that is the issue. Could be gearbox
etc but the car still drives and pulls like stink so i am sure this is not the case.
parts needed are a 3.62 LSD xri4x4 diff and drive shafts

If that was me facing a ring trip without my car I'd be buying those parts and seeing if it fixed it. You can always ebay them later. My local
garage changed my diff, uprights and shafts in about two hours when I went LSD on the old car. It's very doable. This place do reconned parts
which are like new:

I bought some shafts off them for the same purpose, arrived next day.

I think i would be getting EU breakdown cover, and go anyway. Book it in for when you get back. Youll be even more gutted if you blow up your nice
new reconditioned diff....
Kindest Regards,
Richard.

no, the guyt hat took it out and who did the majoirty of fiddling about on the ramp said there is no way he would track it esp taking it over seas.
Its just a matter of time before something/snaps and stops working all together. the guy tracks his austin healy inc the ring so was talking from 27
years experience.
if i could source replacement diff and driveshafts i might consider - but ideally i want to know i have the best parts fitted so it doesnt screw up a
few 100 miles down the road
