Few newbie questions.
Having given up my motorbikes, I am after something to take out for a blast on Sunday mornings etc.
I am not absolutely sure on whether to look for a CEC or BEC, but may go the CEC route as a less extreme drive - may even get the missus out
Anyway, I have a chance to go for a MK Indy with a 2.0 litre PINTO engine. So before I go and take a look, what should I really be looking at - I
understand the spec of the bolt on bits can dramatically increase the cost.
Also, assuming it is a "basic" Pinto car, what realistic performance figures could you expect ?
Cheers for any help.

i have never been in a pinto powered 7 but due to the weight of the car,i would imagine it will still be fairly quick.

i would personally take less intrest in the engine than the overall build condition, an engine upgrade can be a fairly simple job when compared to
building the car itself, but if the build is of poor quality or standard then you could be buying a real headache. also make sure that it is correctly
registered on the V5 document if it has an age related plate or the donor plate as if its not you could be faced with trying to get it through an iva
test.
biggest thing with the pinto is to remember its an old smelly and crude anchor of an engine but can still give one hell of a drive if its been looked
after or "fettled"

it might be worth putting where you are in the world as someone close to you might offer you a passenger ride in a CEC/BEC

Thanks guys - I will go and take a look. I guess it is better to have an age related plate then ?

Hi and welcome to the forum.
I have an MK indy and have just removed
the 2 litre pinto to replace with a zetec.
Yes the pinto is a heavy lump but once fettled and with a decent set of carbs,
as mine was, it is a very good engine that will give most hot tin tops a hard time.
I would be more bothered about an age related plate on cobra than a seven.

I would look at the build quality, added on bits from basic kit (tyres, seats, dash) and that the V5 is correct. You will still get a good drive from
most 2.0ltr pinto's.

P.S I have a 2.0ltr Pinto 4 sale.

Lovely looking car - How much would you be selling it for ? Although the local one I have come across does seem very good value, as long as the build
id up to scratch.
