nib 3.14 diff value
Hi,
I have a brand new, still boxed, Ford 3.14 crown and pinion. I have been saving it for my Sierra project but money talks and I would want to find how
much its worth.
It was bought originally as a spare for a hill climb car and was one of the last two ever at Ford.
So what do you think its worth.

Think i could rustle up a pound for it.
Difficult to price i would think as people would have to factor fitting it in a casing and setting it up.

True, but I you would need to do that with any 3.14 diff as none came in a LSD format and surly thats a must.

Not all true as most people would buy a 3.14 diff already in a casing and fit their lsd into that casing and just setup the backlash hence no reason
for removing the pinion and having to reset that .quote: Originally posted by sparkplug

That's true you would need to set the pinion which does take a bit of time.

I've seen 3.14's go for upwards of £300, but that is in a case and put together, although un tested.
I'd start around the same mark for a BNIB one.
Out of interest, as there is so much demand for the 3.14 ratio, would you not be better off taking it round a few gear cutters and getting quotes to
take a pattern off the new one? Then we could have a new supply of 3.14's?

Quantum has 3,14´s for sale at £215 + VAT for an used diff so i really think there is an inflation.
Some gold digger on e-bay try to rob you of 500 quid for an used on....BRAVO!
And again, 3,14 is an really high gearing for most BEC´s.....Busas and zzr1400 would make an good pull still, but it will be quite high for R1´s and
ZX9´s...even worse for blade´s.

Quantum hasn't had a 3.14 in for years !
They've never pulled it from their website, I think it gets more people talking about Quantum than the cars.
Give them a call

I second that idea.
We gain knowledge faster than we do wisdom!
Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well-preserved body, but rather to skid in
sideways, thoroughly used, totally worn out and loudly proclaiming... "f*ck, what a trip!"

I have linked to some pictures of the c&p as promised. I linked to them as each picture is very large.

Just an update.
I received several U2U messages within hours of posting this thread and I have decided to sell to someone I hope will be able to get copies made
which I hope will help the wider community.
I really did not want to sell as I also want that ratio but I have a bigger struggle as as my project is 4x4 so I also need a 3.14 front c&p which
has been made in the past as a special order but as a single one off it will cost well over £1000 which is not feasible ATM.
Anyway I will hope to keep you all informed to what happens with regard to copies being made etc.
Many thanks for all your comments and interest.

I looked into this very thing a couple of years ago when I was looking for a 3.14,at getting some manufactured and selling them,I thought I would be
onto a good thing, but I found a company already producing them in a 3.1 ratio for the Sierra 7",but anyway after a few preliminary enquiries
found the manufacturing costs prohibitive,as they are a very expensive item to manufacture, and unless your buying them in very large numbers, doubt you
could get anyone to make you some for less than £500 in the uk,China would be cheaper but how long would they last?.

Agreed.
While this would be great, I doubt it will happen. We looked into getting the old Mazda 3.31 R&P made here in the states for the MX-5
differential. A min quantity of 100 was required.
To fund this the Group needed to get over half of the items paid for up front. I think they managed to get 5.
